Six people found dead in an Ottawa home

Ottawa police were investigating the deaths of six people, including four children, found in a home in a residential neighborhood on the city’s south side late Wednesday night.

A man was arrested in connection with the killings shortly after police received several emergency calls at the home around 11 p.m., police said. Detectives remained at the home more than 12 hours later.

The names of the defendants and those of the victims were not immediately released, nor was the manner of death. Police have scheduled a news conference later Thursday.

Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs, speaking with CTV News Ottawa, said investigators do not believe the deaths were “a domestic or intimate partner-related incident.” In subsequent interviews this morning, she declined to provide further details.

Mark Sutcliffe, mayor of Ottawa, expressed his condolences to the family in one declaration published in X, calling the killings “one of the most shocking incidents of violence in our city’s history.”

This is a developing story.
