(CNN) — Novak Djokovic hizo historia in el tenis masculino el domingo in Roland Garros.
The 36-year-old reclaimed his historic No. 23 Grand Slam title after a 7-6 (1) 6-3 7-5 victory over Casper Ruud to capture the third Abierto de Francia of his career.
Djokovic surpassed Rafael Nadal for the most men’s Grand Slam titles and, with the win, the Serbian superstar will regress to the top of the world rankings and become the premier men’s player in every Grand Slam tournament at least three times.

There hasn’t been an easy journey for Djokovic on his record Grand Slam title.

After winning the party, Djokovic fell to his shadow side and lunged onto the clay to reach out for Ruud’s hand. Djokovic curled up for a minute as the crowd cheered him. He joined the multitude more late to celebrate with his family and his employers.
The match lasted three hours and 13 minutes.
Djokovic joins Serena Williams and Margaret Court with 23 Grand Slam titles.
