In Honduras, more than forty died during a clash in a women’s prison

A clash between rival gangs left at least 41 dead on Tuesday (June 20), according to a first estimate, in a women’s prison located 25 kilometers north of the capital Tegucigalpa, police spokesman Edgardo Barahona said.

Deputy Security Minister Julissa Villanueva described on Chirping a ” emergency situation “denouncing “vandalism”.

The president of the prisoners’ families, Delma Ordoñez, told local media that members of a women’s group had set fire to the cell of a rival gang.

“Burnt” building

The building where the victims died “it is completely destroyed, it has been reduced to ashes”he assured, adding that the prison had about nine hundred women.

Many members of the police and army have been deployed around the prison where relatives of detainees have also crowded in search of information, noted a reporter from Agence France-Presse.
