More than 9.5 million hectares of forest have burned since the beginning of the year in Canada, eleven times the average for the last decade.
The phenomenon, which contributes to global warming while being one of its most visible consequences, is not expected to subside in the coming weeks, as temperatures above the norm for the season are expected for the period.
More than 3,800 Canadian firefighters are working to fight the flames, aided by nearly as many volunteers from around the world.
